Walden Volunteer Fire & Rescue was formed on March 20, 1968. We serve the Town of Walden with a population of just under 1000 residents and 39 sq miles. Currently we have 24 members. In 1995 we added EMS to our services. Of the 24 members, 6 are EMS certified. Our current station was constructed in 2005 by the State of Vermont Department of Corrections work camp.
Current fire apparatus:
-2000 International/V Tech tanker with 1800 gallons of water and a 500 GPM pump. Tools and equipment in the tanker include a portable folding tank, portable pump, hose, ladders, SCBAs, forestry tools, and hand tools
-2014 International/Pierce pumper with 1000 gallons of water and a 1250 GPM pump. Tools and equipment in the pumper consist of an exhaust fan, thermal imaging camera, ladders, hose, small set of jaws, SCBAs, forestry tools, and hand tools.
-1995 Ford-Fire Trucks R Us heavy rescue with 1000 gallons of water and 1000 GPM. Tools and equipment in the rescue truck comprise of a rescue basket, large set of Jaws of Life, air bags, cribbing, jacks, EMS equipment, hazmat equipment, ladders, hose, forestry tools, and hand tools.
The Walden Fire Department responds to motor vehicle accidents, structure fires, hazmat incidents, medical calls, forest fires, entrapments, search for missing people and many other situations. The department also serves as mutual aid to surrounding communities.
